Could You Pass An 8th Grade Exam?

Let me rephrase that. Could you pass an 8th grade exam from 100 years ago? There, that’s better.

If there was ever any question as to how far educational standards have fallen, this digital image of a 100 year old exam should put any doubt to rest. Note how, in the Civil Government portion of the exam, the terms republic and democracy are separated. That’s because then, the true definitions of each were understood – even by eighth graders. Today, our own President even recently described America as a “democratic republic.”

Well, America is not a democratic republic, it is a constitutional republic, big difference. I’ll bet those who don’t know the difference between a democracy and a republic wouldn’t stand a chance of passing the exam below.

The Arithmetic section alone, much less spelling, would make most college graduates today faint.
