How the SBC is Leading the Church Astray
Scripture: Exodus 34:12-16.
Watch yourself that you make no covenant with the inhabitants of the land into which you are going, or it will become a snare in your midst. But rather, you are to tear down their altars and smash their sacred pillars and cut down their Asherim —for you shall not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God— otherwise you might make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land and they would play the harlot with their gods and sacrifice to their gods, and someone might invite you to eat of his sacrifice, and you might take some of his daughters for your sons, and his daughters might play the harlot with their gods and cause your sons also to play the harlot with their gods.
Central Thought:
Exodus 34:12-16 was written for our (the Church’s) instruction. Our God is a jealous God. It is one of His names. Our God possesses one bride, the Church. The Church is His people, the body of Christ. There is no other bride of Christ. Neither is there any way that our Lord God Almighty would ever “cheat” on His only bride, for we were bought with the precious blood of His only begotten Son by way of election. Ephesians 1. To introduce spiritual adultery, sanctioning the faith of cults while entering into a covenant with them for whatever reason, as being acceptable before God within the bride of Christ, is to oppose God, His Word, His Sovereignty and every one of His holy attributes. In short, to hold hands with God’s enemy, while professing to be His bride, is to reveal oneself as a spiritual adulterer.
The visible Church of Jesus Christ is being led by some very popular leaders. These leaders, specifically those of the SBC, have been, and are, actively leading churches down a path of apostasy and joining hands in covenantal league with the enemies of God, and they are doing so with few objections.
The fact that there are so few objections is especially egregious. It reflects not only a low view of God and His written Word, but also an apathy among professing Christians that wrenches the heart of every true believer. Yet we should not be surprised. Our Lord Himself foretold that these things must come to pass. 2 Timothy 3:1-5.
As a husband, how would you feel if your wife flirted and committed adultery with another? Would you be happy and supporting?
Al Mohler is one of five major evangelical and Christian leaders who have visited Brigham Young University (BYU) and The ‘Church’ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) Church leaders and spoken in Utah in recent months. Each of these men called for the need to work together with the Mormon cult, a call reciprocated by LDS leaders.
In September of 2013, Richard Land, president of the Southern Evangelical Seminary, and George Wood, general superintendent of the Assemblies of God, spoke at BYU as part of the “Faith, Family and Society” lecture series that Mohler joined in October. (source)
Mohler, speaking of Mormon leaders says:
“I am glad to know these men as friends,” “We face many challenges, and we face many of those challenges together.”
Richard Land says:
“I think that evangelicals have got to accept the fact that the LDS Church is a tremendous ally … When it comes to religious freedom, we all hang together or we all hang separately.”
Both Albert Mohler and Richard Land, along with Ravi Zacharias, leader of an international evangelical ministry and many, many others, are selling out for career and worldly legacy. More than that. They have given legitimacy to a cult. They are betraying the true Church of Jesus Christ. They are denying the faith by entering into covenant with the enemy of God, the Mormon cult.
Brethren, when you make agreement to work together with those who oppose the Christian faith – Mormons, Roman Catholics, etc. – for whatever reason, you are opposing God’s Word. Ecumenicism is not Christianity; it is not based on Scripture, it opposes it.

Amen! They are more concerned with building their kingdoms on this earth than faithfully following Jesus Christ and doing His kingdom work, sharing the gospel with the lost. God bless you:)
Joel,
I really appreciate your strong conviction for truth and faithfulness brother. Such are convictions that are difficult to find in many professing Christians today. You’re right, we must stand up for the truth of God’s word and not compromise.
That being said, let me express something I find wrong with your article. Quite frankly, I believe you have concluded something that really cannot be determined from the article you have referenced. According to the article, what was Mohler’s purpose for visiting BYU? This quotation sums it up well: “Most importantly, we are now called to defend religious liberty for each other, so that when they come for you, we are there, and so that when they come for us, you are there. We are learning anew what the affirmation of religious liberty will demand of us in this dangerous age” [Mohler]. He has a point here. I certainly do NOT see Mormons, Roman Catholics, etc,. as Christians or brothers, (they believe a false gospel), nor do I believe Mohler sees them as such, but they do have the right to religious freedom (politically speaking), just as much as we do. If their religious freedom is taken away, so will ours (and vice versa). His visit seems to be more political than theological. I still may not agree with such a visit, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to conclude that Mohler is subtly leading the SBC into apostasy. Knowing what I do about Mohler, he would never do such a thing. He loves the truth of the gospel and has continually stood up in defense of it. Mohler is not advocating ecumenism, which centers on the blurring of theological lines for the sake of “unity”. In fact, the article had this to say: “Mohler clearly and vigorously expressed the doctrinal differences between evangelicals and Latter-day Saints. He ended with a lengthy witness or testimony of his beliefs.”
To sum up, I’m glad that you’re concerned for the gospel, for the SBC, etc.; but you’re simply wrong to conclude what you have from this article. If I were you, I’d be more concerned with the continual Calvinism-Arminianism debate in the SBC. If Arminianism rises in the SBC, then I believe we would eventually see the SBC fall into apostasy.
Grace and peace,
Drew
When it is finally recognized that the likes of Mohler, Land, and Ravi Z are imposters, unsaved charlatans, false prophets, etc. it makes understanding the “why” of all of their actions transparent. All three of these men signed the Manhattan Declaration some years ago, all three are consummate ecumenicals, all three preach “another gospel” and all three will hold hands with whomever will advance their agenda and legacy. Ample proof is readily available to all for the inspecting, but few are willing to investigate for fear that their favorite high profile “preacher” in nothing more than a rank heretic and liar.
You should also look into John MacArthur for his heretical preaching on the blood of Christ. Sermon #1621, 9-24-72: “WE can not say that the very blood of Jesus, His physical blood what atones for sin…” This is but the tip of the iceberg concerning JM.
