Q&A: Should Women Teach Men About Theology?

Short answer: Absolutely not, in any way, shape or form.

Scripture, specifically I Timothy 2:11-14, could not be more clear:

A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. For it was Adam who was first [a]created, and then Eve. And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, [b]fell into transgression.

This is God revealing His will to mankind through the Apostle Paul that women have neither the right nor the biblical authority to critique or instruct any man as one having authority (oude authentein andros). What could be more clearly communicated than this passage on the subject?

For a woman to act to the contrary is a reflection of her inner soul. It is a position of open rebellion against God and His Word, an exaltation of self-importance and a demonstration of lack of self-discipline. When women take it upon themselves to instruct or teach men as one having authority, they play the master and interfere with man’s God-given mandate to exercise dominion. It is an act contributing to elements of a a matriarchal society – that society permeated with the moral failure of men, where men have abdicated all things manly in exchange for self-gratification, dismissing the importance of law, order and godly civility in both the home and society. As a result, women bear more responsibility than God has instructed. Of course, women may use this as an excuse to teach in positions of authority over men, seeing that men will not properly, but again, God’s Word is clear, and they must not presume a loophole in God’s mandate. Wherever and whenever this is permitted, it is a violation of God’s ordinance.
