The Day Matthew Henry Was Robbed

Matthew Henry, the famous scholar, was once robbed. He wrote these words in his diary:

Let me be thankful first, because I was never robbed before; second, because although they took my purse, they did not take my life; third, because, although they took my all, it wasn’t much; and fourth, because it was I who was robbed, not I who robbed.

Often we fail to look at the positive side of things and choose rather to dwell on the negative. Matthew Henry could have argued that it was his money and even threatened to get even. He chose rather to seek out the good in the face of difficulty. In doing so, he was able to rise above the difficulty rather than to be discouraged and disheartened.
