Tickling Ears

Today, Thabiti Anyabwile tweeted this interesting quote by C. S. Lewis, which was in turn retweeted by Paul Washer:

Brethren, what is wrong, that is, unbiblical, with this quote by Lewis?

Here’s a couple of hints:

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God – Romans 3:23

and the exhortation to all Christians is…

You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. – Matthew 5:48

Do you see it yet? Entering into heaven is not to be more human, but to be the opposite – holy, like God, so very much unlike humans outside of Jesus Christ.

Also, to be “banished” is to be expelled from a group, as in being punished, and yet Scripture declares that all humans, apart from Christ, will suffer eternally – as part of the same group, humans who are apart from Christ.

Now, do you see? Or, are your ears still tickling? There is no biblical way to understand “You will be more human in heaven” than to understand it as unbiblical altogether.
