How ironic – one of the most addicting drinks, Coca Cola, is one of the leading causes of obesity… I think they’re concerned with their image, and truly not our well-being.

I don’t personally like coke myself, drinking pop doesn’t cause obesity I know alot of people who drank lots of pop(regular not sugarfree) who were thin and people who seldom do who are fat, it is not any particular food but rather the poor quality of our food supply, the fruits and veggies and whole grains (hum wonder what a true whole grain really is) have lost alot of their nutrient values due to bad growing and processing, and high carb intakes of stripped carbs like breads (even some of the healthier versions) and cereals, most cereals are bad for you if your malnorished (lack enough vita min etc to deal with glucose) personally I can’t eat alot of bread or cereals even the super whole grain varieites without sending my blood sugars skyrocketing. I am doing well keeping most of my carbs on the very low gi (pop is one of them) fruits and veggies, some beans and very little pasta, when I eat spegetti I use dream fields and only eat spegetti once a week. I can eat sourdough bread with little problems with my blood sugar problems and if I eat one slice of a 100 % whole grain bread with egg or meat on it with some mayo, I do okay but I can’t eat more than one at a time or my blood sugars skyrocket again. so controling those blood sugars can be a problem for people who are nutrient deficient. those who are not, are not harmed by drinking pop provided they don’t try to live off it, I personally when I crave a pop occassionally drink only one. that usually suffices, it is really good if I add real dairy cream. yummy.
I agree that this is about being concerned with their image, but to add to that, I think what is happening is a lot of public schools are removing soft drink vending machines and Coke is scrambling to keep their presence, even if it means only selling water or juice. This has nothing to do with actually wanting to help people, since even diet drinks are hardly much healthier.
