Eat or We’ll Both Starve
The story of Mississippi’s Taylor Grocery, and proprietors Lynn and Debbie Hewlett. It’s hailed as the South’s best catfish joint and it has a brown bag policy. Diners don’t mind waiting on the front porch for a table, sometimes for hours.
Taylor Grocery is about forty-five minutes from my home. Rather than take visitors north into Memphis to a fine restaurant, I prefer to take them south to Taylor for catfish. I particularly love to pull up to Taylor Grocery with Yankees in my car just to watch their stunned reaction. But after downing a catfish plate with baked beans, hushpuppies, fried okra, chocolate cobbler and about a gallon of tea, I’ve yet to find anyone who didn’t get it.
Atta boy! Next time I’m in Ole Miss, I’m going to try and hit this place!
If you happen to be hungry a second time while you’re in town, go to City Grocery for shrimp and grits.
I also live in North Mississippi. Taylor Grocery is awesome! Bring your appetite with you! Go Rebels! Sorry I forgot for a moment.
