Freestylin’ Religion
I have many, many issues with Lutheranism – of which, I am certainly not [I’m hardcore Baptist……green bean casserole, you know, the ordinances]. However, I really like this video, the guy makes some very good points. Listen up, yo! (and ignore the Lutheranism stuff).
For certain – those who disdain the corporate body of Christ has been duped by the consumer mentality of our culture, where the individual exists for self. Christ died for the Church – we belong to one another because of His work, for His glory. Not unto ourselves.
The sad thing is that once upon a time there was, by majority, a population of believing Christians that would recognize this for what it is and the young man in the video, obviously a babe in Christ, would be forced, eventually, to face many of his fallacies as the Lutheran rebuttal exposed. But not today. Today he is a star to be groomed and treasured in his ignorance. He will find many companions to keep him in his spiritual diapers.
Lo and behold, Justin Taylor (TGC) posted a second video of this immature saint. Here was my comment followed by someone else’s comment and then my last comment. It reflects just what I said, fools giving a home to an immature/novice saint for a broad platform which should be reserved for Teachers (which means, those who have mastered the doctrines of the Scripture in a way in which they may be seen as one who is not a novice and may teach with authority):

It seems a lack of discretion to give a broad platform to such a novice in the Word of God without some qualifying remarks by the blog to help those weaker brethren who may be influenced by its theological naivety or lacking elements. It is not merely an anecdotal reference in a blog post but a pointed presentation. I wish it was accompanied by mature comments to align its poorer properties.

Let’s relax and enjoy the message for what it is and rejoice for whom it will reach – theological warts and all.

No the blog gave him the platform. But no, we do not relax and simply treat in this kind of context, an allegedly theologically serious and mature one which seeks to example sound theology, immature theological expressions without qualifying remarks. We certainly receive what is true but there are young believers who don’t have such discernment yet and we are obligated to protect them in this manner. Your posturing might feel righteous but its lack of concern for others and their possible needs due to a lack of discernment between healthy and unhealthy parts of this immature theological expression says otherwise. But more importantly, save your bully methods of trying to use exasperation to silence people elsewhere, it doesn’ t work on me.
No wonder it just keeps going down hill.
