Ed Young Scandal Continues To Escalate
From WFAA.com
“He told his congregation he had nothing to hide.
He insists a News 8 investigation about his lifestyle was wrong.
But Ed Young — the pastor at Fellowship Church in Grapevine — may soon have to answer for the numerous trips by the leased church jet to resort locations. It’s luxury air travel that costs tens of thousands of dollars per trip.
For months, News 8 has requested interviews with Pastor Young. Each time we have been referred to a New York public relations firm for answers.
Yet they have declined to answer simple questions such as: “Who uses the jet, and for what?”
Fellowship Church in Grapevine has thousands of members on five campuses. Young says his church and travels have allowed him to minister to more than a quarter of a million people.”

Everyone, all of us, must be both responsible and accountable! Were their no parameters in place for his accountability to the church authorities? If not, then this is what takes place and continues on………Very sad reflections to the lost world of what a true Christian is like! We are to be a light in a dark, lost world that would cause one to come to Christ! If one is not, then their true state must be in question.
And to have a pastoral staff that breaks bruised reeds, and quenches smoldering wicks (Matt. 12:20)…
Ed Young tried to defend himself on 04.26.2010 at the Ed Young blog: Dealing with criticism: Not If, but When (Part of a 3 part series of videos designed to show Pastors how to handle situations like this). Here is part of what was said…
Pastor Preston Mitchell of Fellowship Church: “It’s like the wheat and the tares. When you have controversy and something negative you see who’s really got your back, who trusts you.”
Ed Young: “That’s great.”
Mitchell: “It’s OK if those people want to leave. They need too. It’s brings the light onto people who probably shouldn’t be a part of your church. And if they leave, that’s fine. Don’t freak out.”
Young: “Preston, you’ve done such a great job over the years of telling people. You were the first person I’ve ever seen, EVER, to say, “hey you know what, our church is not for everybody. Maybe it’s not for you. Why don’t you go to another church.” And I think that’s a freeing thing. Because you were even doing that before you were a “hired gun” here. I think it’s a freeing thing to tell people, “hey, if this is not for you, go somewhere else.””
The aforementioned quotes are at the very end of the video.
This is a strange church discipline they are recommending. They just encourage a departure (break fellowship with believers) in response to their “criticism” and most likely a request to see the accounting of the plane’s costs and uses.
Paul says at Acts 20:29: “I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. And men from among yourselves will rise up with deviant doctrines to lure the disciples into following them. Therefore, be on alert..”
When Ed Young teaches that Jesus is the 2cnd. Person of the Trinity (as he did in 2006), that is his sheep’s clothing. When he lets Bishop Jakes, who denies and defies the Trinity, preach annually in his church, that is the inwardly ravenous wolf’s fruit. When Young says leaders should be open and transparent, that is his sheep’s clothing. When he hides a plane for 3 years, that’s his inwardly ravenous wolf’s fruit. When Young says he “often returns to the Miami campus to lead sermons” because he’s “personally very active there” (through his public relations firm), that is his sheep’s clothing. When the truth is he only led 2 sermons there from 2007-2009, that is his inwardly ravenous wolf’s fruit. When Young says he pays back every penny of the planes costs to Fellowship, that is his sheep’s clothing. When he refuses to let anyone see the accounting of that, that is his inwardly ravenous wolf’s fruit. When Young says, “(the plane) is something that um, you know, I’ve never been shy about telling people that ask us that all around the country. I tell people that” (04.26.2010 EdYoungblog: “There’s Always a Story Behind the Story at the 3 minute mark), that is his sheep’s clothing. When his staff and church learn of the plane first from the worldly media, that is his inwardly ravenous wolf’s fruit. When Young suggests he serves Christ, that is his sheep’s clothing. But when he waves his bible in front of a gold plated grill (U.B.U. video at the 0:32 mark; hit the pause button at 0:32), he’s showing the world his inwardly ravenous covetous idolatrous wolf’s fruit.
Ed young was lying right througn his teeth when he says that he has been completly open about the plane. I know for a fact that he has told staff members to deny the plane’s existence and to not talk abou the it.
I am reminded of the den of thieves that Jesus put a stop to in the Bible. Fellowship is the same sort of place.
Well said.
I have said that from 2007-2009, Young led 2 sermons from Miami. My wife remembered 2, I remembered 1. But the Miami campus opened, and we both remember seeing Ed on the screen in Grapevine of him preaching at the Miami campus. And we only remember 2 of those. We stopped going to Fellowship in 05/2009.
My statement was very imprecise. I should have explained clearly what I meant. I did not. I completely failed to consider any teaching Mr. Young may have done there during the week, or simply while someone else preached at Grapevine. I mishandled the evidence. And that is sin. I deeply regret that. I publicly apologize to Ed Young, to all members of Fellowship Church, and to the readers of this board. And I will be careful to not make this mistake in the future.

I think this whole thing is kind of rediculous… do you honestly think it is strange that the man is flying back and forth to his other church’s location – what? would it make sense to drive all that time? It’s probably much more convenient to have the jet so he can be a better steward of his time. And the condo… well, would you have the man sleeping out in the street – or should he just crash in his office when he’s doing stuff at the FL location?!? Of Course he has a condo in Miami!!! Come on, ppl, use your brains a little!!!
I think it’s so funny that people expect that just because a person is preacher that they should be poor. How does that reach the secular? If christians are all poor and unprosperous, no one would ever want what we have.
We have no problem with a motivational speaker like Tony Robins to make millions by going around speaking to people, but then someone delivers the word of God to ppl for a job, and we don’t want him to make a living out of it and it is suspicious if they are prosperous.
i saw a bumper sticker the other day
“my pastors private jet is bigger than your pastor’s private jet”
kinda made me think of this board and this place, what has the “church” come to??
I have a personal opinion about Ed Young. My gut feeling says he is a creep and a theif that preys on the weak minded. Me and my wife used to attend Fellowship in Grapevine,TX. After hearing rumors of his lavish lifestyle we decided to stop going to church there. It is almost cultish how he has a hold on his followers. I have a feeling there will be numerous scandals that involve Ed Young to come.
Unfortunately, we are two years down the road from this and it has seemingly played out like any routine political scandal. The “narcs” are silenced, people move on and all is forgotten in the midst of the morass of the newest and juiciest stories to cross our monitors.
Father rescue us, your people, from our vanity and refusal to turn back to the cross daily for our sustenance, our value and our identities. You are our only hope for true justice and peace and we long for you to return for us and for the life you promised in the new creation.
